Have a friend at work who uses a 763 which had about 2000 hours about 3 times a week in a construction job. He said the "shut off mechanism" stopped working and so to stop the engine he would tilt the bucket into the ground and go forward until the engine stalled and died. After about 6 months of this the engine seized and he spent $7000 having a new engine installed. I told him his stalling technique probably contributed to his engines' demise. He disagrees. Any opinions?

I don't think it would have killed the engine, well at least it shouldn't have.
Sounds like he had a bad diode in his alternator wire. This causes power to keep running to the hold coil of the shutdown solenoid, so it keeps running.
