I recently installed a carrier refer (v2203) unit in my 763. I discovered the cam that is on the tail end of the main shaft on the injection pump cracked in half this cam drives the pump. . . so I installed an electric lift pump designed for diesel pick-ups. . . the motor fires run up and runs at wot regardless of where the throttle arm is positioned. . . I'm assuming this is due to higher than necessary pressure at the injection pump. . . I plan to put a regulator before the pump and plumb a return into the fuel tank. . . anyone know what the recommended pressure is? Thanks, Steve

The WOT is from the governor not the fuel feed presssure. Excessive fuel feed presure might cause a little smoke at idle but not likely. Any where in the 2-6 psi range should be fine. Your governor needs to be looked at to see if it is set at WOT for the reefer unit or if something is stuck or broken.

any ideas as to what to look for if I pull the stop lever and governor plates off? I tried an experiment that seemed to work so I could temporarily move the machine out of my way. . . I pinched off the fuel line about 75% closed right at the injection pump and it ran at a lower rpm but I still had no throttle control?

Lift pump pressure is not the problem you have.
It will be the throttle linkage between the govenor and the throttle lever. There is a spring that links the two. Have you ensured the parts are the same under the throtle arm cover?

sounds like governor, whats a carrier refer?
Its an engine from a carrier branded refrigaration unit, the type that get hauled around by trucks to keep food cold.
They get sold off cheap when they are in crashes and the container is damaged beyond repair but the engine is still good. Its the same engine with a few slight differences to throttle the engine up when needed.

I would think that a reefer unit would have a set speed that it runs at. There probably isn't much in the line of throttle controls on that pump. I never messed with them, but I am going on the premice that the freon pump needs to turn at a set RPM to function properly. If the engine is the same, the pump off the old motor should bolt onto the reefer motor to restore throttle functions.

From the pictures i have seen, there was a solenoid that connected to the throttle to bring the revs up when needed, say when it was being loaded the doors are open so it needs to get colder faster. When at temperature it can more or less idle, there is no reason for it to run flat out when its at temperature.
Its a shame they aren't as easily available over here.
