If my 763 sits for a while, say 24 hours or so, then sometimes I have to crank it for quite a while before it will start. I immediately thought that this was probably a small fuel leak, letting air get into the system, so the next time that it had sat I tried priming the fuel with the primer ball pump but it was rock hard. Then, I tried starting it and it just cranked and cranked with no signs of life and no smoke from the exhaust. After cranking for a while, I let the key go back to the "on" position from the "start" position and I got a momentary hit from the engine where it was trying to start, but since I was no longer cranking it, it died. I waited a few seconds to let the starter cool down and then after cranking just a short time it started right up. After you get it started, you can shut it off and it will start instantly until it sits for a while again. I've had the aforementioned scenario happen at least 3-4 times but not every time. I did notice last night that the linkage on the fuel shut off solenoid was not pulling the lever all the way over to the stop in the run position. I adjusted that last night. I've not 100% ruled out the fuel leaking down but I don't have any visible fuel leaks and the filters are all relatively new. I have a hunch that there is something intermittent that sometimes isn't allowing me to get fuel in the start position of the key switch but this only occurs when the machine is cold. Anybody out there have an idea of what I need to look into? Thanks!

Likely you have a bad relay that controls that linkage to turn on and shut off the fuel. Have someone watch it to see if the lever gets pulled when your are having the starting problem.
Or try swaping your relays around to see if that cures it.
Or if you are by yourself just tie the linkage to the left (in the run position ) and see if that makes it fire up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. If the solenoid is sticky, it could be causing you issues too.

Same issue here as well. I have a spare relay so I will try that. Tazza what is the cure for a sticky solenoid? Spray, clean shaft?

Basically, yes. If you can remove the rubber boot and check that no dirt got in, maybe some silicone spray, nothing oily that could damage the rubber. The plunger should be able to be removed from memory. But mine is aftermarket, it may not be the same as yours.

Tazza,
I was out fooling around the other day and cleaned up the solenoid and tried it a few times. I now know that when the key first turns the fuel solenoid makes a noise when moving and then the brake solenoid clicks. I will take notice when turning the key before starting, to hear the click. Just have to keep an eye on what's going on if the problem persists.
BTW. long time no talk. It has been about a year since I was last on. I got busy and the Skidsteer Forum got out of the loop.

It has been a long time indeed :)
Time seems to be going so fast these days, oh well.....
Good idea about listening to it. Even if you leave the brake on so it doesn't click, you may be able to hear the fuel shut off solenoid easier.
