Howdy Guys, First time poster and long time lurker. Many of these forum post have gotten me out of a pinch many of times many thanks to you and I surely will need to donate to this site. Machine: 753 7000hrs, taken care of, only one minor leak at the hydraulic sensor Issue: 753 was running fine and just stopped. Wouldn't crank nothing. As time would have it I had to call it a day as momma said time to go and I had already put her off. Came back and machine fired up and I drove into shop and shut down. Next day would crank fine but not start. The fuel solenoid will activate but when engine started cranking would shut then reopen when I stop cranking. If I hold open and crank it will start and run and will shut off with the key. Checked voltage and have 12.5 to Timer Delay with a drop to 9.0 during cranking. After the delay voltage drops to 0 during cranking. Put in new ignition switch-no change Switched relays under the air cleaner with no change. Broke down and bought $100 new timer relay installed--no change So right now the problem is zero voltage on cranking after the timer to the solenoid. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, Brad

Make sure to check voltage on both sides of the harness, check it right at the timer and at the solenoid. It's possible there's a broken wire somewhere. Don't forget to check your fuses if you haven't already

Your solenoid should have 3 wires, ground, pull and hold. Pull is the one that pulls it intopositionwhen cranking, the hold is there to hold it in place. Check you have votaage to the hold coil, or it will start then die when it stops cranking as it's not being held in place.
It could be as simple as a bad solenoid coil, or a bad relay.
I never remember what colour is what, red or white will be pull, the other is hold. Cheeck you get power to one when the key is on, this should be the hold coil.

Red is hold and white is pull. It sounds like you should have voltage on the red wire because you said you pulled you're solenoid and it held itself in place. Your white wire is the pull which comes out of the timer. Just check for voltage on the white wire directly out of the timer while you have someone trying to start it for you.

ok, not that makes sense, I'll check voltage across all three. Thanks a heap!

If you push the solenoid over does it start?
If hold it over it starts. Once it closes when I start cranking the solenoid snaps shut but will click back open and hold with minimum effort. I haven't had an extra hand available to test the white wire voltage.

Changed the relays, still closing when cranking and opening when cranking has stopped. Also has new ignition installed. If I put a small screw driver in between the arm and stop position it will start. The solenoid bounces closed then open and again. I'll have to check the wires again as it was late and now can't remember which one didn't have power.

Sounds like the hold side of your solenoid is bad

Follow up. After searching through more post I decided to buy a Bobcat branded ignition switch. Bam! That did it. Fires up without hesitation. Thank you for all the help. This forum is a life saver.

Glad it was such a simple fix.
