Techie at Bosch US said plugs should reach max heat in 4 seconds, and is OK to leave on for 3 minutes. Originals seemed to work OK when removed and tested, but with new ones at 1280 hrs I now get no smoke on startup. I guess the old ones were "weak?" Replacement is simple with 12mm deep socket. Had to remove one injector line to access a plug, but was simple. Did not bleed injector line after replacement, and it started right up. --- That's my accumulated wisdom on glowplugs. I think if you search internet on Bosch 80006 you'll find some at about 8 or 9 bucks. I would only use the genuine Bosch plugs, I wouldn't go for an equivalent. I would also steer away from Autozone, they quit carrying the 80006 and the replacement was not mechanically identical.
