751 w Kubota ticking

I have a 751 with a Kubota that has been running perfectly. During a snow storm my brother in law was using it to clear snow off his drive. He was operating the unit and he went from full throttle to idle and immediately the motor started ticking. I pulled the valve cover and with my limited knowledge nothing looks immediately wrong. The sound is definitely metallic in nature and is in sync with the motor speed. The motor has approx 2400 hrs. on the clock. This is my first skid steer so if someone could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Also, if someone knows a source to get the Kubota manual that would be helpful as well. If it was me, i'd remove the drive belt, start it up and see if the noise is still there. If it is, its engine and not pump related.
It could be an injector, it could be a valve. Any smoke?
With the valve cover off, you could check the valve clearance. It should be about .008” on inlet and exhaust.

It could have broken a piston, I had one brake and the engine kept running and flogged the cylinder with the conrod,luckily it did not punch out through the block. Had the cylinder resleeved.

Thanks for the tips. While troubleshooting something finally let go as now there is coolant in the oil. Looks like a chocolate milkshake. It definitely looks like I'll be pulling the motor out now. Is this something that I should even waste may time with, or should I just go on the hunt for a new motor? I believe it's a 1903 b, but are there other similar Kubota's that would fit the bill. Talking with local mechanics, I can't get a good read on what I'm dealing with. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Oil in the coolant is bad. Sounds like you let it go too far and punched a hole in the block.
You can look on ebay for a V2203, it may need your old sump putting on but it should do the job. A few more HP too

Tazza, Thanks for the insight. In regards to the v2203 swap you mentioned swapping the sump, but is that everything. Some people on the net start mentioning flywheels, manifolds, etc... It definitely looks like there are more v2203s available on the net. Are the reefer engines OK to use as they seem to be an inexpensive alternative? Thanks for all your help. Jerrod

Sorry, yes, the manifolds and flywheels will need to be changed over, there may even be an idle up solenoid connected to the injector pump, this will need to go too. Usually if they state its sold for a bobcat, they include instructions of what you need to swap over.
