What are these glow timers you speak of? I ran a jumper cable direct to the glow plugs. It has always been hard to start. There is a hissing sound right after it cranks trying to start. I thougt it sounded like a small coolant leak. Mechanic who looked at it said it sounded like a head gasket leaking (??). It has always had a "coolant" smell to it so I figure there is a hose leaking. Was hard to start the few times I used this year. Then it quit under a medium load backfilling the foundation. Could never get it started again...The mechanic mentioned timing. Could it have gotten off time while it was running? Is there any info posted on this site that details how to check the timiing?
