can anyone help me understand what the three solenoids do on the control valve that controls lift & tilt?

Three of them? there should be two for aux, one for lift lock out?
Does that sound like what they could be?
Newer ones have small solenoids on the side of the control block where the spools exit, they engage a notch in the spool to lock the pedals out, unlike the older style that did it with a plate that was moved as you lower the seat bar.

There were only (3) of them. The top (2) for auxiliary & the inboard (1) for the BICS system.
