I was running my bobcat and engine started dying , I thought I might be out of fuel but the gauge read 1/4 full , I put 5 gals in and pump and bled the line. It started right up , Happy days are here again, then it ran for about 10 minutes and shut off again. I had to pump it again and ran for less in a minute and same thing for about 4 times trying to get the machine back to my shop .The squeeze ball is always empty so i have to keep pumping it to keep it running. Is it the injection pump with the fuel pump in side of it . can a person put a electric pump in line so I do not have to buy a $1700 injection pump rebuilt. All help will be welcome. The snow is building up on my long driveway

The first thing I'd check is the fuel pick up line in the tank. Sounds like its cracked and sucking air.

Thank You , Thank You , Thank you Old Machinist You help me last time with my problems with my bobcats and glad to know you are still here for us. If the pick up line tube was leaking air in the tank would I not be able to get any fuel up the line to pump it . Also should I put a line off the squeeze ball in a separate gas tank and see if it will run that way . That would tell me if the line is crack and leaking. MERRY CHRISTMAS

It's the tube that is inside the tank that is likely broke off. The do not always break off cleanly at the top, so when you fill the tank right full, it will run for a little while until the fuel level drops below the break point. Then it sucks air. HTH

Sometimes when there's just a crack in the line you'll be able to pump the bulb to get fuel but as soon as the fuel starts sloshing around it opens up the crack and sucks air. Yes, to verify its the pick up line attach a seperate fuel source.

It never hurts to check the fuel filter too, my 751 was doing the same thing the other day, i assumed fuel filter but added more fuel seemed to be ok, then started dying again, i didnt bother prime the filter though. I spun a new filter on and it fired right up, went back to work. I always carry spare filters. That one only had 6 hours on it (i mark them when i change them) and i had cleaned and drained the tank before i put that filter on, and its only been filled at the pump with clean new diesel cans.

Thanks for the advice and I will do the same thing , The filter has only 50 hours on it but you do not know what is in the tank sometimes

Well installed external tank and it keeps running , thank the lord its not the pump. but now I will have to face the replacement of a pick up tube. I replaced one on one of my other 751 with a peugeot engine by the dealer and it costed me $700.00 . This time I want to tackle it myself . Any insight on how to make this repair. I know it will not be the easiest since I am 63 years old and do not bend as good as I use too. Also can I use parts from a auto shop. any help will be appreciated

The pickup tube isn't too hard. I did one in about 10 minutes.
Lift the cab, get a helper jiggle the pickup tube at the filter so you know what one to pull out of the tank. It's behind the pump, not really easy to access, but can be done. You may need pliers to lever it out. Replace the pickup tube and oush it back in. That easy. If the groment is hard, you may want a new one from the dealer, not that expensive and easier to re-install into the tank.
Even better if you can find a younget friend or family member to do the twisting for you :)
