You will have to have a long hose on you grease gun (I use two hoses together) Raise the cab and lay down on the pump, reach around the pump on the drivers side (if it were a car) The zerks will be out in the end if the u joint instead of in the center of the cross like most u joints. there will be (3) of them, It is better if you have a helper because someone will need to turn the motor gently till you get to where you can feel them and in this position it is hard to get a grease gun on the zerk and pump it too. Hope this helpsThe short answer is, no. You can only feel it by reaching behind the hydro pump it is not visible. And its even hard to feel just what is what. Sometimes you can use a small mirror to reflect its image and find the zerks. Your best bet is to pull up a diagram of the machine to see just what you are looking for.
waynemags: I hope this helps you. The 843 is a little larger than the 743, but with the help from my wife, I was able to see the zerks with a small flashlite in one hand & the other end of the 36 inch grease gun connector in the other hand. I am 5'6'', and this was a very hard job for me to do. I had to pad the top of pump and lay sideways to get to zerks. Good luck. This is a Great Forum. From So Ca 843 U-Joint Posted: 03-29-2013 11:30 AM Have had an 843 1986/87 with Perkins engine for one year now. Replaced all fluids, drive motor seals replaced, new muffler, new paint with rattle cans. Runs great, but after reading horror stories about the U-Joint that goes from engine to pump, I had to do something to lube the joint. I ordered a 3 foot grease hose from AutoZ0ne (Special Order $10) for the grease gun. Took off metal cover from front of engine. Lifted ROP, used a small flashlight, had my wife turn engine with broom handle. She was able to stand out side of Bobcat and pump the gun. After turning engine, I found 3 Zerk fittings that needed a lot of grease (20 pumps). It was a lot of work, but now I feel a lot better I lubed the U-Joint. I hope this helps other Bobcat owners lube, that HARD to get Joint. This has been a Great Forum. The short answer is, no. You can only feel it by reaching behind the hydro pump it is not visible. lay on top of the pump and feel around behind on both sides, you should feel 3 or 4 zerks. i had someone else pump the grease gun while i held it on. took about 5 minutes. the hardest part is knowing which one you have already greased. The short answer is, no. The foam from old couch cushions laid on the pumps makes it a lot more comfortable too.lay on top of the pump and feel around behind on both sides, you should feel 3 or 4 zerks. i had someone else pump the grease gun while i held it on. took about 5 minutes. the hardest part is knowing which one you have already greased.
I used a pistol grip grease gun with a 3' hose. Its not too bad but the first time is a pain as you learn where the fittigns are.The foam from old couch cushions laid on the pumps makes it a lot more comfortable too.
