Purchased a 743b bobcat & I'm wondering how to determine the volume/capacity of the bucket in yards. Its 5'wide x 30"deep x 18"high. A local landscape company sells soil, gravel etc., by the yard & says his bucket holds 1/2 a yard. His bucket is definitely smaller than my. Also it has a problem with the fuel pump selenoid, when its cold I have to manually pull the lever in the engine compartment to engage it but all summer it works fine. I tried another one off a buddies machine & it does the same thing. Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I think yours would hold about 9 3/8 cu ft or 1/3 yard . A half yard bucket is pretty big and off hand I think 1 yard of gravel would weigh about 3000 lb may be not right on about that but within reason. Look up skidsteer attachment makers and see what they list the same bucket at.

I see skidsteer solutions lists one 60x21x30 with 70 degree back angle at 13.88 cu ft heaped which could be called a 1/2 yard but how high is "heaped' ?

Probably you need to lubricate the pivot points on the engine stop solenoid, maybe where the shaft goes through the cover, inside the cover where the arm pushes against the injection pump. Lubricate everything well and work parts back and forth several times to be sure all are moving freely.

I posted the formula for calculating bucket capacity a while back in this post. http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=54&frmView=ShowPost&PostID=25092
