The threads stripped on one connection to the oil cooler on my 743B. It will not hold hydro oil anymore. Seems like it would not be too hard to fix compared to buying a new one for $500+. I was about to cut it off and weld on a new fitting, but the cooler is not made of steel. Afraid I would damage it further. Where could I take it for repair?

You can probably find a suitable brass fitting with a compression sleeve and nut that will work. -Dick

A radiator repair shop is going to be your best option, they typically can handle most cooler repair type of work. GOOGLE local shops in your area. OR check EBAY for a used one, if all else fails.

I see no reason why you can't braze a new fitting to it. Not steel? are you sure it's not? As long as it's not aluminium, you can always silver solder it to a new fitting. I have done that before when i needed to join to stainless.

Depending on how much tubing is still in place / available, then a compression fitting might could work in a pinch. Maybe at least a new cooler or proper repair could be made.

Thanks Tazza. I took about 20 minutes to watch how to braze videos on youtube. Bought silver solder and flux at Home Depot. Ordered the fitting online. It took about an hour for me to get the new fitting on the oil cooler with a good seal - a bit of a learning curve. Now it is good as new. Great solution.

Well done!
Not everyone would be brave enough to give it a go, glad you did and had success. You saved money and learnt something new along the way.
