743B intermittent heavy shaking / metallic knock

Help Support SkidSteer Forum:

Noticed the ring gear was also quite worn, that would explain the difficulty starting sometimes. I'll probably replace this aswell.

Which models share parts with the 743(b)? not having a whole lot of luck finding parts for the 743.
I saw a video where a guy heated up the gear ring and then tapped it off. I wonder if you could rotate it?🧐

I destroyed the gear ring when removing it, and even so there is a small chamfer on each tooth on the side that the starter gear slides into, so i dont think rotating would be wise. Also considering a new one is like 80 dollars?

In other news, the machine is back together and running again. It's still vibrating though, definitely not the same as before. Is it possible the engine and pump are too much out of alignment? The vibration is on the same frequency as the motor, it could also be the flywheel? I accidentally drilled a bit into the flywheel when removing the gear ring, so now there's a few grams of flywheel missing on one side.

I've added a video of the sound here, it's not very loud, about the same noise level as the normal machine noises. I'd like to know if it's something i should be worried about or can i just continue driving like this?

check the yoke that holds the u- joint ,you might have bent it slightly. I know of someone who went thru the same repair and he bent his, had to get one from canada ,new part was hard to find. think it is listed as nla.

My U-joint looked like below, i dont think i've applied enough force to bend any of them.
I did have to replace one of the new bearing houses on the U-joint with an older one, since the new one didn't fit (machined wrong). Perhaps this could've cause some sort of misalignment? it moved freely by hand.

Eighty dollars isn't much due to the amount of work it takes to replace it.
I wonder if you could fill the hole with JB Weld to add the loss of weight.
It definitely sounds like something it tapping.

I'm doubting that it's an unbalanced flywheel, at most i've only removed a few grams at most, and looking at the old flywheel there was definitely more material missing due to the wear on the teeth!

Before my repairs the two bolts holding the hydrostat pump were loose, i'm considering loosening them again to see if that helps any.
