My 743 won't start,I charged the battery but I'm not getting power to the ignition switch. When I put the charger on the starter I get full power to the ignition but all I hear is a clicking and I'm pretty sure that's the solenoid. The starter is not turning over the motor. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Alot of times on starters if you rap on them with a hammer they will work, try that and if that makes it work you will need to pull off starter and have it rebuilt. You should be able to test for voltage on the side of the sellenoid that goes to starter, you will have to have somebody help you turn key or jump selenoid out while your testing for power. Ps if you tap on starter you dont have to kill it, just a few good hits on the side of the metel housing, and it works even better if somebody is trying to start it while your doing this. Hope this helps some. OH make sure all your battery connections are good

Thanks but I tried banging the solenoid and the starter but no luck. Solenoid still just clicking. I charged the battery up but it doesn't seem to be enough power. Thats when I just put the charger right on the the solenoid.

Is the click coming from the solenoid on the starter or up on the left where the two large relays are?
Its possible you have a bad connection in the solenoid on the motor. You can pull them apart and clean the copper terminals, its fiddly but can be done. You could try putting power to the large terminal under the solenoid and see if the motor spins.

Last time I saw this happen the wires to the starter brushes had disintegrated. You may have to end up removing the starter to find the problem. As mentioned above there are two possible clicks, from the starter relay or from the solenoid in the starter itself. Many auto parts incorrectly call the starter relay a solenoid. The solenoid moves the starter gear to the ring gear and is at the starter. The solenoid allows the thin wire from the start switch to connect the higher current draw of the solenoid coil. Since the starter's fat wire goes directly to the battery the solenoid movement connects the starter motor. One out the starter can be easily tested with jumper cables or you can go to most auto parts for free testing.

Ya its clicking on the solenoid, guess I'm gonna have to take them out.I was hoping for an easy fix.
