Removing engine but coupling is not releasing from pump shaft, engine moves easily from side to side.Could splines be rusted badly or slight seizure? Have a picker supporting motor but trying to just pull straight back without lifting motor too much.

It is possible that it is rusted in, there is a grease nipple on the yoke, you can try to pump grease in to see if it helps push it apart? It shouldn't be stuck together.

Thanks,it came loose ,used a couple C clamps pulling motor plate to frame and it popped loose .

Glad you got it apart, give it a good clean/grease when you put it back together.
had the same problem with mine...would not let go for chit. finally got it free with a good tug from another tractor. Found out later that the splined adapter that attaches to the front of the pump had a hairline crack in the keyway slot. This let the adapter expand tight into the universal joint female end in essence it binded up in the splinded joint. The main shaft that the adapter is mounted on is tapered...so a split will let it ride down the tapered shaft while expanding. Solution ...replace splined adapter.

Wow, never heard of one of those splitting while it was all hooked up. They crack when people beat on them to get them removed.

Mine almost fell off after i unscrewed the center bolt. And here i thought it was going to be a total bitch to get it off. Just for chits a giggles i fit it into the female end of the u joint that was still on the flywheel and it slid in and out with ease. All the splines had oil on them and i couldnt figure out why i had such a hard time pulling the engine. After finding the crack and litteraly watching it expand when retightening the center bolt i realized why the engine wouldnt come out. Or thats the conclusion i came to.

That's exactly the issue people have. They crack it when removing it, you tighten up the bolt and find that the female part no longer fits due to the expansion of the spline.
