I have been trying to rebuild a 743 with the v1702 engine. I can't find expansion plugs for it. There was one set on e-bay, but they won't ship to Fl. I can't find any other set of freeze plugs. I am having the block cleaned and sleeves installed/bored.

Does anyone have a good solution for expansion plugs or the sizes and number of plugs I need to rebuild the motor?

I would assume that where you are having the block reconditioned they could get some brass freeze plugs and install them easily if you asked. that is usally a part of the service done on a rebuild.

They are standard sizes, any auto parts store or even ebay will have them. Pull them out and measure them.

The one on the back of the block is not standard. Have you ever gone to an auto parts store and asked for anything that didn't have a year/make/model? You might as well ask a Mc Donald's worker to do addition.

I don't know if Kubota used metric or standard bores. The piston sizes are metric. Not all expansion plugs are standard either.

I will figure it out. I was just hoping someone had dealt with this situation in the past.

Maybe as a last option you can have the parts collected in the US by a shipping company and then pass these on to you? I live in Sweden and had a few parts from Ebay shipped this way by shopusa.com. There are other companies offering similar services.

They are metric, i guess i'm spoiled, as i live in Australia and metric is the standard over here.

We have no issues getting these plugs

Have you asked the shop doing the cleaning and liners if they can get or install them for you? This would be everyday work for a machine shop and yes, the plugs are metric. Another avenue would be to measure them and start with a simple Google search. I just randomly chose 20mm freeze plug and that searched popped up part numbers and links to buy them. Dorman is likely going to be the manufacturer. If you have the dimensions you can call their tech line at 866 933 2911. I doubt they can help you by application but can with the dimensions.
