743 Temp Gauge Reading

Since the temp gauge on the 743 doesn't have any numbers on it tell how hot it actually is running, where should the needle be on the gauge for a 180 degree thermostat. Should it be in the middle of the "normal zone"? If the thermostat is 195 degree, would that put the needle into the "hot zone"

the only suggestions I have is to at the machines operating temp. get a infered laser type temp gauge shine it on the bottom side of the thermostat housing and use that number to mark the gauge needle to that temp. or buy a 2 inch temp. gauge with the matching sending unit with the numbers shown on the face.
