743 starter wiring problem

My 743 is still stuck on start. I swapped out the engine. After putting everything back together, when I touch the ground cable to the battery, sparks fly and the starter spins. I replaced both starter solenoid relays. Something else must be wrong. When I disconnect everything except the cable from the battery to the starter (not running through the relays), it still sparks and spins. Could it be a problem with the ground? The starter? Seems like this should be obvious to someone smarter than me... Is there a surefire way to get the machine grounded properly? Thanks for any suggestions.

Lets make sure we are on the same page there are two ford looking solinoids to the left of the engine one is for the glow plugs and one for the starter then there is also a G.M. looking one on the starter itself if you replaced both of them my gusse is that you mixed up the wires on the ford looking one

Ok sorry reread I bet you did not replace the one one the starter it sounds stuck hit it with a hammer or replace

The starters on the 743 machines were prone to having the starter solenoid sticking. This is the solenoid on the top of the starter, the contacts can weld shut keeping the starter spinning.
Does it crank if you have just the power cables hooked up and not the small wire that engages the starter?
