Since I've purchased this 743b (that is what the sticker say but has the old style axle configuration) about two years ago, I've put on about 160 hours around my property. Here recently I've have noticed at higher rpm (3/4 throttle plus) the steering controls are becoming more jerky. I've recently replaced a leaky 3/4" hydraulic hose to the left hydrostat and replaced the steering linkage cam lobes ($98 for 4--damn!) since I had to remove to get to the hydraulic hose! I adjusted the steering linkage for no creep and have changed the hydraulic filter. Still wants to jerk at the higher rpms. I do have steel tracks on the unit but they have been on since I purchased the unit. No other hydraulic problems except for a small leak on the tilt hydraulic cylinders. Hydraulic system is relatively quite with no apparent issues.

the old machines just are kinda jerky, unless it's uncontrollable i wouldn't worry about it. they just aren't nice and refined like the new ones. but they still do the same job :)

Hmm... I have to disagree. I have an old beat-up 743 and it moves quit smoothly, whether trying to just creep along or charge at full speed. It does have only pneumatic tires, no tracks.

You changed the round stops from what i make out from your post, did you change or flip the flat stops they run on too?
Now, that is the centering assembily.
Did you change the rubber bushings on the steering levers and the pintle arms that come from the drive pump. If there is wear in these steerl and rubber bushings, it can make the steering a little more erratic.
Also, ensure the pintle arms are tight on the pump, if they are loose, it will jump about too.

Hello
Been down this road myself.
The cams and steering linkage need to be in good shape the cams develop flat spots. Have welded them up and also replaced them but they will need attention.
Adjusting the linkage is a bit tedious but you can do it. Just get all four corners off the ground and be safe about it.
Jerky controls can also mean the seals in the drive motors need replaced. They do tend to disintegrate over time. Loader Parts source was where I bought my seals from. If the control jerks only on one side the easiest way to determine if it is the drive motor is to swap the motors side to side and see if the problem follows. If so rebuild time.
