hi guys, been a member for a while, never posted but here goes, how do i tell what serial # it is without the actual serial plate which is gone,i got it (1989 743)from a local farmer that has had it for 20 years and i wasnt worried about it being stolen because i trust this man,any way is there a way to determine what it is so i can order parts, the dealer tells me i need the serial because they changed some stuff, when i looked at the parts manual for electrical there seems to be alot of differences in the different serial #s,any help would be helpful,i was told it was a 1989 and when i sandblasted it it says 1989 on the rims and due to paint layers i think they are original

Some had it stamped on the chaincase, just above where the lift arms sit. Lift the arms, look just above this area, hopefully it has it.
There were only slight changes between revisions. What parts do you need?

I have found the numbers to be on chaincase where the black meets the white paint. You will need to clean real well and have a good light, due to the numbers are in a dot formation instead of a solid number. Wes

If you're looking for the serial number and it doesn't have a plate, look in the same place. Just above where the middle of the arms rest on the chain case. Just above there.
