I have a 743 with a kinda knocking noise under seat. I just replaced u-joints, yoke, spline on pump, and new motor mounts. Sounds like something (flywheel fins ) hitting somewhere or maybe just u-joint allignment out? I've had engine out 3 times and can't find the problem. Any ideas or help?

If the park brake is on it can do this if its not set in perfect neutral. If you rev it up, does it go away?
It could be the blower fins touching a section of the blower housing, i have had this before, i needed to put in a spacer to push the hosing away from the fins.

I have seen the motor mount plate at the flywheel end crack and cause all kinds of strange noises. If the plate is covered in grime it may not be easy to see. Also I have seen the locating dowels on that same plate come out and cause problems. The pumps also have a mounting plate that can fail but I have seen more problems with the engine plate.

my money is on Tazzi's post- I have had this same trouble after installing a new blower housing. If it is the housing rubbing no big deal just work the machine and it will go away.

Could it be the starter solenoid not disengaging? This would be more of a grinding sound. Start engine and remove one of the battery cables to deenergize the solenoid.
