I have a fuel gauge that is working but i think it is the sender maybe you guys can help. the gauge works fine i ground the sending wires and it reads full. but when the tank is more than a 1/4 tank it reads empty. I seen in another post that the coil goes bad in the sending unit and it will have dead spots. does this sound like my problem? thanks

Its possible, but its also possible that the sender arm needs bending so it reads zero when its touching the bottom of the tank.
Mine was the opposite, it never read a full tank. I had to bend the arm and i also had to put conductive paint on the top few coils so it read full.

After re-reading your post, you may be right about damage to the coils too. If so, you can some times twist them together on the back of the sender where the wiper touches it. A new sender ran me abou $80 about 8 years ago... I suspect they haven't gotten cheaper :(

well just wanted to update you guys. I decide to pull the sending unit out and look to see what kind of condition the coil was in before i went and bought one and I found out that the coil was dirty very dirty. so after about 30 min of carefully cleaning the coil so that i didnt damage it, put it back in and it works fine. I used carb cleaner, compressed air, and a small piece of sand paper to get in there and get it clean. hope this helps anyone else with this problem. so glad to save the money when it was still functional.

Also thanks from me. I will have to pull the sender out of my tank and have a look. Mine reads full when it is full, then reads empty when the tank is still half full.
I have fixed tank senders in cars etc before and it sounds like the bobcat ones are similar.

I have to pull the sender on my 843 as its not working right. I already bought the replacement sender and the gasket and the sales tax for a little over $100. I kind of hope its really broken, since if its only dirty then I will have bought a new sender when I did not need to.
