Ran pretty hard clearing hedges with my grapple the other day and noticed some oil dribble from the bottom of a drain hose that comes from the top of the engine down to the left side. Also noticed a small amount of oil coming from around where I think the throttle connects to the top left of the engine. What is this ? Is it normal ? Can it be fixed easily? Thanks, Tee

Dangit I cant ever seem to put a picture directly into the message. How do I do this ?? Frustrating! Sorry guys
It could be the internet browser you are using. I'm only able to post pics using "internet explorer", not google chrome.

If it's like 843, the hose coming off the valve cover has a diaphram. If that is broken or clogged it will effect engine case pressure. My 843 had a bad one and it made pressure high which forced the engine oil out the dip stick tube. Try cleaning the hose and diaphram.

A little dribble of oil from the crankcase vent is not unusual after usage.
How many hours does the engine have on it?

Common issue.
If you remove the lock nuts, you can try and lever the arm off the shaft with 2 large screw drivers. The shaft has a key in it, so don't do what i initially did and took the whole plate off and tried knocking it out in a vice, it kinda stuffed it.
Either way..... Remove those parts, remove the key, remove the aluminium or plastic bushing (depends on the year). remove the O ring and take it to a seal shop and they will match it, it's only a few cent part. Grease it up and re-install. Put the other goodies back on.
Now, the 2 lock nuts. Tighten them up so the arm is firm, but not binding up. You want it to not wiggle side to side.
It's a pretty simple repair, the hardest part is getting the arm off the shaft. If it's rusted, it's so much worse.

The 743 has 2950 hrs the last time I checked ... so far the engine runs like a champ and I have been very very impressed ! Still working out a few small issues as time permits in between jobs but nothing that renders the machine inoperable so far ... fingers crossed ... Thanks Tazza I'll see if I can get the new seal installed the next time I have it in my shop !

Yes, that's the plate.
Just watch the springs that are underneath it. I used a piece of wire to prevent them being lost inside the engine.
If you can get the arm off by levering it up, you don't need to take that plate off.
