1988 743 replacing ignition switch and hour meter. I have wiring diagrams and the most recent one in my binder says it's for serial number 14085 !? My serial number has nine digits. What's up with this? They must have made a lot of units after this book was printed?

The 14085 does not have enough numbers to be a full serial number. They may have abbreviated the serial number since they all started the same for several years.

The oldest 743 serial number was 501911001. The number you have is missing the first four digits. It should have the "5019" in front of it if it is the older manual. But it could also be the newer manual that the serial numbers started with "5093"
