Hello All, I need new distributor for my 742B with the 1.6 Mitsubishi. I was wondering if anyone knew of an HEI style distributer that I could swap in?.. If that's not possible, what vehicles would have had the same distributor that I could possible find a used one in the salvage yard or cheap on ebay?

The late 70's Dodge Colt used the same engine but the distributor has a different number likely has different advance weights. What is wrong with you current distributor?
The number on yours crosses to MD009102 the only other place I can find it was used was Mitsubishi powered Caterpillar fork trucks.

Thanks for the link! How were you able go cross the number? I will most likely buy that one and stay with points. I was hoping to upgrade to electronic while I was at it, but I don't know enough about these engines to know if a new distributor can be used. I did however find a kit to convert the points distributor to electronic that claims twice the voltage to the spark plug http://www.tractorpartsasap.com/Electronic_Ignition_Kit_p/117586.htm As for why why I need a new distributor.. short story is assembly error. The long story.. you may recall my previous post about getting this machine running. First I realized the auxiliary flow was turned on and that was why it wouldn't start. It ran great for about 10 minutes. Then couldn't get it to run for more than 30seconds if at all. It started making some noises that made it obvious that there was something wrong in the bottom end. So took the engine back out and tore it back down.. Found the new bearings in the bottom end destroyed. Come to find out the machine shop that did the block had installed an extra freeze plug in the oil passage in the front of the block. So the oil pump sent oil to the filter and pressure sensor, but no further. The machine shop admitted there mistake and paid for all new parts and rework.. When I disassembled it to go back to the machine shop I pulled the head with manifolds, fuel pump and distributor still in place. Things would have been fine, but then decided to pull the cam to check for bearing surface damage. Then when I went to bolt the rocker assembly back down I thought I had the distributer gear engaged into the cam.. I was wrong. Now I have a distributor with a bent shaft and cracked housing. Whoops. Starting to think this thing just isn't meant to run, lol. Good thing I got it cheap.

While searching for the number you gave I found several Asian sites that crossed it to the other number.

Also found this about electronic conversion.
