Message: <blockquote data-quote="Fishfiles" data-source="post: 16094" data-attributes="member: 782"><p>Not that I would ever do this to anything I own or it has any reference to the topic othr than it's a cool engine ring story , I was working in the Gulf of Mexico on platform and drilling rig cranes for about 4 years , rebuilt a Detroit Diesel 4 cylinder in place on location with a crew waiting on it , and it oil smoked on start up bad , looked like it was on fire , a long time oil field mechanic who was working with me on the project said that the rings didn't seal/lap in yet , he went and got a can of Comet or such abrasive cleaner from the galley , took off the air intake hose , cranked the motor wide open and sucked the entire can of Comet thru the motor , we went and had a chill session in the gang house for about an hour , upon return , low and behold no smoke , I would see every crane 4 times a year for a quarterly inspection and that motor ran good with no problems long after that</p></blockquote><p></p>
