Gents, Thanks for the addition to the forum. I recently purchased 2 older Bobcats a 643 and a 742. The 742 with a FORD industrial gas engine is in need of a few parts that were missing completely and I need to find them , new , used or rebuilt. I was wondering if ya'll could help me figure out what fits what. My machine is missing the data plate so I dont have S/N I can find- first problem. Looking for a carb and linkage to the Hoof governor- I think the P/N is 6598372 but hope you can verify? The Starter- I think the P/N is 6671014? The distributor I think the P/N is 6512522 or 6630396? The machine needs a lot more but this should get me to be able to crank the machine and gauge the machine. I sure could use some help, this is my first machine and I have a lot to learn. Thanks for the help, Bob

More info---- Casting number behind starter- 711M6015BA I think that is a 1600 CC / 98CID Tall deck Big Cap-- uprated engine. Tag cast into block- V1G1 is that 1 July 1991? Anyhow- took a guess and have a carb coming, stater is being rebuilt. Still trying to source the right distributor. Thanks for any help yall can provide. Bob

My 742 has a distributor w/ Red Cap. Distributor No 0231170307 and 71BB12100BH4 Both Nos stamped on housing. I have a Petronics Electronic Ignition Kit for it that is P/N PNX 1843. Petronics identifies their kit as fit for Bosch 4 cyl application. (The kit is cheaper than a new condenser from Bobcat. Points are extra.) Starter is by Delco-Remy. They fit old GM trucks and can be had aside from Bobcat.

Thanks for the reply Craig93 I think I figured it out- at least I hope so- I ordered a full electronic Petronix distributor #D196500 for my 742. Slowly piecing this old girl back together, its a basket case with out a basket but I'm patient and dumb enough to fix it. Got the exhaust manifold back on today, coil, cleaned up some shoddy work. Hunting the exhaust pipe, thermostat housing and water pipes now. Always something! THANKS for any help the forum can provide this is my first Bobcat and we just bought another one a 1985 643! Bob

Thinking of buying a Pertronics distributor for my machine. Looked up the D196500 unit you have ordered. It says non-vacuum advance distributor. My 742 does have a vacuum advance. You may wish to see if one with vacuum is available. These little motors need all the help they can get as the governor is slow to react. I plan to call them Monday. Their catalog is 84 pages but doesn't list the Ford 1.6 directly. The piston rings were very soft in these engines so over advance is hard on them.

Craig look at the pertronix 1241LS and 91244A as drop in solutions for a point style dizzy. My engine originally didnt show a vacuum advance so thats why I went with that one. Also CARDONE #30-2483 is a 1.6L 1971 Pinto distributor with VA....word around the campfire is that it would work too? BB
