741 Bobcat Loud Pop on Startup

Hi Guys. I have a 741 Bobcat with the Duetz Diesel 30HP Air cooled engine that I aquired at an auction recently.Machine runs and operates great and engine runs strong but there is a Loud Pop on startup that is both scary and embarassing.Any Ideas?

I just wonder if it has something to do with the excess fuel thats used at startup.
How much smoke do you get when it fires?
Any knocking noises while running? and i assume you aren't using ether or any other starting fluid? as that makes diesel engines make an awful rattle at startup. I know these engines do rattle quite a bit when running, but they are very good!
There really isn't anything that comes to mind that could cause a pop, not in a diesel. Petrol engines sure, back fire but on a diesel i don't know if a backfire is even possible.....
