i'm thinking my u joint needs to be greased. my machine is a little jerky and the handles shake alot at low rpm. whats the best way to go about doing this? it's a little noisy when i drive too......could it be wearing out or will greasing make a difference? the machine only has 1000 hours.

Its not always machine hours when it comes to grease related issues. Age also needs to be taken into consideration because grease can dry out over the years. Your machine is most likely pushing 25 yrs old and who knows how long its been since its been greased last. The wobbling of the levers are a sign the u-joint needs attention. I would give it a good greasing and hopefully your troubles disappear.

It doesn't hurt to replace it either,I'd hate for a u-joint go on you suddenly...

greased the **** out of it today (as far as i could tell, anyweay haha), the machine is noticeably smoother, but still shakes a little bit. definitely an improvement thought.

Good to hear it's better, but if it still vibrates, it may fail and take the pump shaft with it.
Removing the engine isn't all that hard, i have done it quite a few times on a 743 which is pretty much the same. Have a helper on hand and you should knock it over in a few hours.

I agree with Tazza on that one...

well then i will put it on the radar of things to do, i'll risk it breaking for the next few months. i'll ask bobcat for a quote anyway, they have been great with everything so far. i had them give my whole machine a go over and they didn't mention it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

If you can find a helper, it's really not that hard of a job to do at home. Cheaper than the dealer :)
