Have a newer alternator, a couple weeks ago was using my machine at night and the lights were flickering and the volt meter was going up 14 down below 12. retightened the belt and it seemed to get better, but after a while it did it again. so i went to napa and got a new belt. installed, seemed to get better then got bad again. retensioned the new belt, and it was good then got really bad. then i noticed the belt wasn't spinning and the new belt was trashed. so my question is did my old belt keep stretching? then did i install the new belt too tight so it wouldn't spin?

Sound like your alt was out of line or bad bearing
bobcat installed the alternator a year ago. a month ago i heard something rattling and found the alternator hanging. i had no issues before this. i did notice also that the alternator isn't perfectly inline with the other pulleys

That is what I think lets see what others come up with
I can't see alignment being a huge deal, a bit out should be ok.
The belt shouldn't stretch enough to be an issue like that, a bad pulley could possibly cause the belt to be damaged/wear oddly. I don't think you could get the belt tight enough for it to not move, but you could get it tight enough to cause the belt to fail.
Ensure the water pump pully/bearing is good too, it “may” be causing the issue.

Bearings going out of the alternator or water pump. Something has to be dragging to burn a belt out like that. Alignment is important, but if its that kiddy whompas, I'd think you'd notice that.

can you change just the bearing on a water pump? its been so cold and my garage is full haha so i have to diagnose outside, hopefully tomoorrow.

If the bearing is bad just change the pump
I may be wrong, but wont the water pump start to drip antifreeze from the weep hole if the bearing is going bad? If you have a local auto electric garage around, maybe take the alternator in to have it looked at. It should last more than a year, but we all know how it goes sometimes.

Apples to oranges here, but on a Deere 320 skidsteer at work, we have replaced the water pump several times because it would randomly lock up. Never leaked a drop.

i'll inspect and report back today. what are the signs of a bad bearing, loose pulley? i wonder if when i found the alternator hanging if it got damaged. i wonder how long bobcats warranty is.
