My loader died today and will not start. It will turn over and crank but will not start. The tank is half full of fuel, fuel solinoid will open, the fuel filter is new, the pet cock is open and not fuel comes out. Why does the fuel come from the top of the tank? Does the engine fuel pump draw fuel up and out of the tank? Why is it not starting?

Have you checked for spark? Also the fuel pump on your machine is mechanical, it could be source of your troubles. You can follow the gas line after the pump and disconnect it, then turn the machine over to see if fuel comes out? If fuel doesnt come out while turning the machine over, you most likely found your problem. If fuel does come out, then your looking for a spark issue. The 642 has a fussy set of points which need to be set at .025. The condensor can also be a cause of no spark. If you havent installed a tune up kit lately, its probably due. Good luck.

That was going to be my next project, to pull the output line on the pump. But i was also wondering why fuel dosnt run out when you open the pet cock with the filter removed?

Fuel is drawn from the top of the tank. Ff the pick up tube rotted and fell off, fuel can't get out of the tank. Very simple test, fill the tank full and see if it starts. If it does, the pick up tube is gone. Very common with older machines.

Fixed it! Yea the fuel pick up tube was dryied, cracked and split on top. I dont think i have ever worked on anything that sucked fuel up and out the top of a tank. Thats what kind of baffled me. Thanks for all the help.
