Hi there i am going to replace the left drive motor in my 632. Is there a removable master link in the chain set? If not can I use a removable master link when I reinstall the chain after the motor is in place? What are your thoughts? The book also says I need a special tool to remove the nut from the motor any thoughts on that? Thanks for any and all input...This forum is the best!! Mark

Hey skid632, I just did this on my 630, I cut the front chain with a cut off wheel, went down to the local bearing and chain store and got a master link. I had to do both and the links were only 7 bucks for both. Ace Hardware also carries them but cost a little more. Once the chain is cut, remove the 4 mounting bolts, pull motor out some and push it back towards the engine then I had to rotate the back gear so it would roll off the sprocket. Going back together reverse the order and it will go right together. Make sure you have the cat jack up so the wheel will turn. When putting it back together, make sure that the chain is in all the teeth of the front gear. When I was doing mine somehow I got a link bunch up which makes the chain short. Lay the chain in the bottom of the transmission, pull it up to the gear then turn the gear to pull the chain and watch your fingers. Rotate the gear while holding the 1 st link on the gear and it will load up just fine. the master link will slide right not. I was fighting mine until I realize I had a link bunched up, so check that if the link does not go right in.

Any special tools needed to remove the nut to get the sprocket off...or for that matter..any needed anywhere to do the job? Did you have to drain the chain case?? Or are the motors high enough that it doesn't drain out? Did you get new motors or rebuilt?

Oh Ya...Thanks for the Paint the link tip..

OK, as soon as i get home i wil type it up for you
Sorry but someone made me go drink beer, but here we go.
1st if you had disk brake, this is going to be fun. I use a piece of oak, 1x1x4, jam it in the chain and break the torque. Before removing the disk I mark the disk with a 1x.25x2ft flat steel bar. Then after I got it out I drilled and tap the disk to re torque the nut, this work great. It you do not have a tine enough wrench you will have to loosen the other motor because its nut will be in your way.
The sprocket, I could not do it myself and if you do not have the same type setup in the MM, you need to take it somewhere to get press off. I was just inspecting mind because I had a ton of trash in the system, I was not replacing. I went to a local John Deere heavy equip shop and they press them off for free. I call the bobcat guys and they never called me back.
I would drain the oil because you have to pull the chain out to remove the rest of the link you cut off; I would not do it while still in the transmission sparks will fly. I put cut link in a vise, and did 3 cuts with a very small cut off wheel and hit it with a punch popped right out.
I would also drain the oil because when you re install the chain, it is going to be a real mess and you need to see when putting the chain on the gear. I had mine on jack and used a piece of garden hose to sophane out the oil, the front lower than the back to get as much as you can. This will be slow.
Where did you get your motors just in case I need them?

Good to here, hold on to your old motors, I might need one once i get my engine issued fixed. i am still messing with my, wont stay running. shuts down after 10 to 15 minutes. So I have not got my pumps and motors tested yet.
12 hours, not bad. I think the hardest part was getting all the oil out of the system so there is not a big mess.
