I've got so much of the machine appart now I'm tempted to pull the engine to properly clean everything out in there. The service manual makes it sound pretty straight forward, just disconect things and slide back but I figured I'd ask here if there is anything I should be aware of? How about reinstalling it is aligning the u-joint a difficult? I'm not concerned with the weight as I have a fork lift here.

Does the support plate come out with the engine or does it stay?
Engine does not want to slide back, could the u-joint be rusted tight? There was nothing in the manual about a mechanical attachement between the engin and u-joint

Not sure how yours is but with mine I disconected the coupler from the flywheel first. That and the exhaust, air cleaner, Reinstalling you will need another person so you can line up the coupler, just watch you don't get yourself pinched by it! Best to use a cherry picker than a forklift.

Can hardly see the coupler, do you recall what kind of attachment? how may bolts?
Thanks

Stopped in at the local dealer and asked the head mechanic about it. He said it is just a slip youke type fitting and is likely rusted tight. He suggested trying to pump the grease fitting up to see if it loosens at all but I could not see or feel any, if I can get more light in there and have someone turn the engine by hand while I'm looking maybe I can tell for sure, maybe there are holes for the fittings and I can install some, otherwise there is very little room in there to try and pry it appart and it is tough to see whay you are doing, I'd be reluctant to start beating on it.,..
