This is probably a good time to ask this. I have asked a number of times through the years but never got a definitive answer. The variable speed sheave on these machines are matched and balanced when new. There are balance/alignment marks on each half and a warning on the outside half to align correctly. The manufacturer told me not to mix 'unmatched' halves but I know in the real world that it is done often. If not perfectly balanced, what are the risks......engine? Belt life?

If the marks are not aligned correctly the sheave is not matched correctly it will wear out and you will have to replace within 3-4 months also belt life is yes in the question as they are ment to be lined up for a reason wear and tear on belts make them brake if not aligned correctly it wil snap again though this will not happen for a month of use. i recomend taking your time and doing it correctly.

Thanks money, Actually that's not what I'm asking, probably didn't ask very well. What I'm asking is if you have two different halves (not an original pair) with the marks aligned, would that be a problem. As far as I know Bobcat only sold new ones as a pair, never halves.

Well it took two weeks and three letters to Bobcat but I finally got a response. It reads as follows for those interested. "Engine (drive) clutch: Sheaves are machined, balanced and timed (clutches are marked) as a set - to eliminate vibration on the engine crankshaft. -Mixing engine clutch parts will cause adverse affects on the engine crankshaft."
