Hi all, Just wanted to say thanks to everyone one here for all their advice, you don't know who and how many you have helped. Went to see a 463 yesterday that has been parked for a year outside. Engine started straight away off a jump but the battery was completely dead, not holding any charge. The guy jumped in, went to move and she died out. Turns out the BICS had no power, played with fuses etc but no luck. Tried to winch onto trailer but due to being sunk into ground and not able to get a clean line to winch off had to leave her there till I get another machine there to assist. When I woke up this morning started to do some research and all your previous help you had given came up when I used the search function. Won't be back there till next week but hoping it is as simple as the battery being flat as i'd forgot how sensitive the BICS seems to be. Will probably take some dollies along just incase rats and mice have had a little chomp on the wires. Anyway thanks all again, Jon

Where its parked is in a place the phone can't get signal so couldn't google it when with the machine. Going back hopefully on Tuesday eve to try and rescue her one way or another. OK got an update, Put a battery I know to be good on her and the BICS sprang to life, pushed the operate button, 4 green light, so should be good, but nope. One side moved but the left side as you look at the machine from the front moved an inch and then nothing more. Took an age but hauled it onto the trailer with my micro digger and a lot of swearing and got her home. Going to go through her tomorrow but are the brake solenoids known to go bad? This machine has been parked for a year due to a creeping issue. Thanks Jon

It is possible the solenoid has gone bad, normally you'll hear a thump when it releases. If it only moves an inch or two either way, that's a sign that the brak is stuck on. You can remove the solenoid and disable the brake to make sure it does indeed move.
It could be a blown fuse or bad relay to the solenoid too. There will be 3 wires, black, red, white. Black is ground, the other two are pull and hold, i never remeber what ones are what. You can power it from the battery to make sure both coils do indeed work or if the issue is further back towards the controller.

Thanks Tazza, Going to try and take the solenoid off in a bit, am I right in thinking its under the plate in the middle of the cab? Noticed when you try to move her the plate rocks back and fourth at the same rate. If I take the solenoid off and she moves ok I'll start testing the wiring back to the break. Thanks Jon

Sounds like the right course of action to me. It could be that the plunger is frozen in the bore of the coil - seen that before in other applications.

Well its all sorted, and such a simple issue caused by a ham fisted idiot and not me this time. One the first visit to the machine when it fired off a jump as the battery was fried the guy was messing around with the brake relay, he had an issue getting the plug back onto the relay, can you guess whats coming? So after 3 hours yesterday collecting the machine and the micro digger hauling it onto the trailer from where it had sunk for a year in a boggy track I got to work on it this afternoon. Flipped cab, tried to find the solenoid with no luck so thought I'd trace the wiring back to it. Thats when I noticed the relay plug wasn't sitting right, pulled the connection apart looked inside and one of the pins was bent, straightened it, fired her up, hit the button and click. Moved straight away. Lesson of the story, if someone else has worked on it then check their work before anything else. Do have another issue but will start a new thread.
