463 cooling fan problem

Having trouble with cooling fans on a 463. They seem to work intermittently. Sometimes when I turn the key they fire up (but can stop during work) other times they seem completely dead. I have checked the relay and fuses and they seem OK. Getting very frustrated. Anyone got any ideas

First I'd check for a loose or corroded ground for the fans. Next try swapping the glow plug relay with the starter relay(or just buy another relay and replace the starter relay). I know that sounds strange but the fan circuit goes thru the starter relay so the fans don't run during cranking. If the problem goes away replace the relay. Also check for corroded terminals in the relay socket.
