so my 453 blew the left side drive pressure hose. Do I have to pull the engine to replace this. I'm at a loss

It depends on if its the hose at the top or bottom. I remember them being a real pain to access, but you *should* be able to get to the hose without pulling the pump/motor.

unfortunately it is the hose coming out of the bottom of the pump. I've tried to get at it everyway reasonable, but now am at a stand still. I am at the point that I either need to remove the fluid resivor or the pump. I just don't really want to spend another whole day fighting this thing if there is a better way to go about it.

Imagination and patience ===== maybe a Crow foot wrench with ratchet or a cut off grinded and or bent wrench and turn it with a pry bar , hammer or pipe maybe a hammer and blunt chiesel to loosen the fitting then channel locks to turn it

Unless the machine is someplace where you just can't pull the engine/pump assembly I've found to gain access to that hose and the suction line connected to the bottom of the tank just pull the assembly. It's takes me about 5-6 hours to pull it and put it back in and I don't have to bust my knuckles trying to get at those hose fittings. While it's out I'd change the suction hose too. Plus pulling whole assembly lets you clean out all the oil and gunk that acumulates under and around the engine. Another thing check the drive belt and idler too they're easy while the engine/pumps are out but a real pain otherwise.
