Hi can I flip the rim around and go from a 5.70-12 to a 8.50-12 thanks

Hi Mrmike,
Unfortunately, it is not that simple. The rim for the 8.50-12 tire is much wider than the rim for the 5.70.
New rims from BC run about $150 each. When my old rims rotted out, I made new ones from garden tractor rims. See this:

Man SR, those welded together/plasma cut rims are unbelievable! I saw that you used a lathe to touch up the wheels, how large a lathe would that be? Well I guess I need to get a plasma cutter and learn to weld better. Thanks for the post.

We have 2 lathes out at the farm. We used the larger one for this job. It has a 20" swing and is 66" between centres. The other one is 11" swing, 30" between centres.
As far as cutting the centres out goes, careful use of a cutting torch would net the same results.
