440B Unresponsive

Hi all, new member here. Yesterday I had my 440B running, and planned on some light snow removal. I had it warmed up for about 15 minutes before I took it out. I made it about 20' beore it stopped moving and I had no hydraulics at all. At the same time there was a new rattling sound below the seat on the right side. The engine runs fine, and the rattling would get louder or quieter if I throttled up or down. There are no leaks or puddles. I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, but any advice on where to start would be helpful, or if anyone might have an idea what may have happened and can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

The drive belt from the engine? That was still intact. There was not anything obvious when I looked in the back of the machine. Could there be a drive for the hydraulic pump that went bad?

The tensioner on the belt? It sounds like something came apart just below the seat. There is a rattling sound on the right side below the seat that started at the same time that I lost the hydraulics. I have not looked under the seat yet to see if there is anything obvious. I won't be able to look at it until this weekend at the soonest. I'm just looking to get some insight as to what I should be looking for and maybe be able to save a little cash if I can do some/most of the work myself. Any thoughts and insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

It does sound like the drive belt tensioner spring has broken and the idler pulley is just flopping around. If it is then the engine/pump assembly has to come out to fix it.

The tensioner setup on the 440B is the same as the other44X series machines. Another member had his spring break on a 443 and posted some pictures in this post.

As soon as the temperature hits the plus side of zero ( somewhere near 30) I will take a look. Thanks for all of the replies and the information that was offered.
