hey fellas. im new here but my boss has a 330 or 331 mini excavator. the problem is that the alternater is not charging. they put a new one on but it still wont charge. we can jump it and it starts out at 12v then it will just constantly go down from there. there was a red wire coming off the alternater that our local dealer said we didnt need and that someone prollly just put it on there. its not the big red wire one, prolly like a 14gauge wire that goes into a small wire loom. i dont konw where it came off of b/c i didnt take it off. anyone know what could be the problem? could that wire be part of a voltage regulator? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks paul

the voltage regulator is built into the 331 alternator , there is a fuse that could be stopping it from charging , have you checked for power to the alternator , maybe it's not a bobcat stock alternator and has been modified since you have an extra wire

or anyone that has one and a dig. camera, any way i could persuade u all to go snap a pick of the back of the alternator. maybe we could figure somethin off that.

There are a few different configuations of the 331 and 334 , I have never seen or heard of a 330 , the fuses could be under the rear hood , right in the middle above the engine , two sqaure boxs with gold clips holding them on , 4 fuses in each box , or while sitting in the seat at your right knee there would be two thumb screws holding a cover , fuses under there , or under the right side cover which covers the hydraulics there would be a cover with two screws holding it down
