Hey Im pretty new to owning a skid steer and so far have had only fairly easy to diagnose issues with this used purchase. About 2 months ago I was using the mower attachement and it just stopped working suddenly indicating hydraulic failure. I didnt have much time to mess with it so I shut it down for another day. For a few weeks the machine started just fine but the hydraulic issue seemed to continue for maybe 2 more weeks. finally it was dead. I assumed a battery issue and took it to the store I purchased it thinking I would leave with a replacement and problem solved turns out the battery was fine. So ive since attempted to trace some wires and check fuses but honeslty have very little experiance on how to propoerly diagnose any help would be appreciated.

Since you left it out side where you were mowing the first thing I would do is open it up and look for rodent damage. They love to chew wires and make nests in machines. This probably has nothing to do with the hydraulic problem but electrical issues cause all sorts of issues.

Do you have any Fault codes? When you say "it is dead, what do you mean with that? Can you crank the machine, does everything comes on but will not start? What exactly is the machine doing or not doing?!

The machine does nothing doesn’t make a sound when you turn the key. I saw the note about rodents. I did wonder that but what’s the best way to trace wires?

OK< how about the hydraulics fluid level ?? is it full?
as you said, you were using it and it stopped and was "indicating hydraulic failure"
which can happen when fluid level gets low
and if it gets low enough(ON SOME MAKES AND MODELS)< they will not allow you to start or run, to protect it from damage caused by too low a fluid level!

SO< I would make sure the fluid level is right!
next I would be checking fuses to see if any are blown!

and as for tracing wires,
you start on one end and follow to the other looking for damages, chew marks, bare wires, broken wires and so on!
never a fun job in my experience!
and I would keep trying to run this machine while it has this issue! you could; damage very costly parts doing so!

Good luck!

IS there a way to get it to turn over without using the key?
