Just acquired a 2010 L185 and noticed it has a nice amount of blue smoke when it’s cold. After it warms up it clears up and goes away. No loss of power or anything just annoying starting it in the shop. Unit has 17xx hours on it. One theory is I noticed is that the temp is always at 32deg and never moves so either my sensor or display board is acting funky. Question is if the sensor/board is bad I assume it would communicate with the injection pump and be dumping too much fuel or throwing the timing off causing it to smoke? RPMs aren’t accurate either so it makes me lean twords the board being bad. I know they cause issues at times. Any help is appreciated thanks in advance! Temps have been mid 50’s during the day and mid 30’s at night. Hasn’t been plugged in.

blue smoke would indicate oil burning , white smoke coolant problem ,over fueling makes black smoke. I do not know how smart that machine is as computer controlled goes but I would work on the temp. sensor to get it working and go from there. remember check those grounds as they get overlooked.

I'm far from being a skid steer mechanic, but I was a lifelong heavy truck/diesel engine mechanic for 30+ years. It's normal for blue smoke during cold startup due to incomplete combustion, different expansion rates of pistons versus cylinder bore, etc, with a cold engine. My NH 185 with the Fiat diesel does the same thing when cold, but zero blue smoke when engine reaches normal operating temp.
