2006 Case 450 hydraulic leak

Hello. I have a 2006 Case 450. Split pump configuration. Would anyone be able to tell me if the o-ring between the hydrostatic pump and gear pump is designed to withstand the oil pressure? Should there be oil present between the two pumps or does this indicate a seal failure in one of the pumps? The o-ring appears damaged when I removed it, mis-shapen a bit and dried out. Oil started spraying forward from between the bottom of these two pumps while brush mowing. Thank you!
