[QUOTE="eeastment, post: 118612, member: 18959"] I may be able to solve your problem. My 2005 LS 185b was doing this recently. My problem was the “interlock fuel solenoid relay” was not closing while cranking, it wore out and would only fully close intermittently. When you’re in “maintenance mode” this relay is bypassed and it will start normally without the relay. The relays job is to close and energize a fuel solenoid when the ignition switch is in the ‘run’ and ‘crank/start’ positions and other conditions are met (safety stuff). This relay controls a solenoid on the high-pressure Bosch injection pump. The solenoid permits fuel into the pump. When de-energized it acts as the fuel cutoff and stops the engine. I’ve shown the relay in the attached wiring diagram (17). This relay is located in the engine compartment in the fuse block area. If I recall correctly the relay/fuse box has a diagram on the inside of the lid so you’ll know which one to swap out (there are several of the same type in a row). I replaced it with one found at an autoparts store, it’s a very common relay. The OEM is Bosch part No. 0 332 201 107 Replaced mine with: import direct 25-0136 (O'Reilley autoparts). Hope this helps!
