I have a 2004 Gehl 6640 that I purchased new and only has 850 hrs on it. When I start the machine there is a loud squealing noise that almost sounds like a bad belt but it isnt the belt. It last for a few minutes then goes away. It does it every time I start the machine. I noticed that if I move the lift arms or bucket that it makes it quieter. Is this a pump going bad?

could it be a bearing on one of the pulley;s, alt, tensioner , oand so on?
as there common to fail and squeak after they sit a bit, then goes away for NOW< after spinning a bit!

and yes I imagine a pump going bad can also make a squeak, but at these low hours, I would not think so,
i'd start with looking at pulleys first

I will check the pulleys. That was my first guess until I noticed the sound change when I operated the hydraulics. The sound will completely go away if I curl the bucket up and hold it.

have some one listen at the back with the engine compartment open when started to help isolate noise. Make sure to check alternator belt for glazing making it slip under load that occours after a glow plug or manifold heater use and engine start.
