Pretty sure this is a dumb question but with out a owners manual to look in, I thought I would ask the pros here! Any way on with the question! Is it ok to shift from low to high, and high to low on the fly? Or should you be stopped before switching it? Thanks all.

I was told it was okay to shift on the fly, either direction. I don't like shifting from rabbit to turtle while at any kind of speed, as it seems hard on drive components. I usually slow down in rabbit, almost to a stop, then shift, then move the sticks forward all in a quick fashion so I keep moving. I also try not to do any kind of "work" in rabbit mode.

Shifting on fly is fine. That said, shifting from high to low will cause the machine to rapid slow down so it can cause a big jerk for the operator. 2 speed on a bobcat works by cutting off oil to half the pistons in the drive motor. Less surface area to fill with oil means the motor spins faster. Some manufacturers change the angle of the swash plate in the motor to change displacement of the motor.
