On my 1838 the manual shows a level plug between the tires for the fluid level in the drive chain compartment but my 1838 has no such plug. Is there another way to check the level or do you. I was draining one side and it appears I have more then the 6 qts the manual said is required to refill it so now I'm wondering if that amount is correct. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

The manual is most likely right. If there is excess oil it will be from a leaking drive motor output shaft seal unless someone overfilled the chain case.

My 1838 has a bigger round plate (6 inch Diameter) between the two wheels and it has a center plug so I am thinking that is where you check the full plug. There is a similar plug underneath the machine on each side so I am guessing they are the drains. I am also new to the skid steers and I think mine is a 1999 also. Working on the fluids first and also found a bad ball joint rod end on the linkage rods from the driving sticks.
