1990 bobcat 743 using Natural Gas Engine Oil??

Hey guys. I purchased a 1990 bobcat 743, the previous owner left me some left over engine oil. The bobcat has blow by, and i just noticed he is running Petro Canada 10W40 Sentron VTP plus natural gas engine oil. What would be the reason for running a natural gas engine oil in a diesel?. I read it could be for cold starts but doesnt have the detergents to clean out the soot from the engine. Should i switch to a diesel engine oil? what do you guys recommend.

The most likely reason is that he got it for cheap/free. IF it was my engine, I would put 15W40 diesel rated oil in it.
