I have a defective alternator for my Bobcat and I do not know if it has an open or closed circuit. I ordered a new one, but it does not say if it has an open or closed circuit. There are 3 prongs on the new alternator and 2 prongs on the old one. Can someone tell me if this alternator will work?

JJ….I have experience with the M-610, however the first thing I do when I get a new one is throw away the entire original wiring harness and replace it with electronic distributor and the single wire alternator so I'm of no help on this. Hopefully this will bump this post up and someone will be able to help.

In general the terminals will be your field wire, your voltage sensing wire, and often a tach terminal. You can make any alternator work if you know where to put voltage. You want a bulb in series on the field wire. Output post to battery, and sensing lug can be skipped or hooked to the point where lowest voltage would be. Unless youre running a bunch of lights its not gonna matter.
