1969 M500 Stuck Engine

I was just given a Melroe M500. It ran fine until 5 years ago when the guy parked it next to his garage and it sat through 5 Northeast winters. I towed it to our farm last week and blew out the leaves and sticks and tried to turn the engine by hand in the shop. I got no engine movement. It appears stuck. Am I crazy to think of a new engine kit? or am I going to be throwing good money at bad? Anyone have a trusted source for a repower kit?

Pull the spark plugs and pour in 4 or 5 ounces of ATF into each cylinder. Let that soak for a day or two and then try to turn it over by hand. If you can get the rings un-stuck - you might be able to get it to start!

I didn't use their kit in mine, but I did use pictures of theirs as reference to build my own.
